How To Turn Your Regular Car Into An Electric Car
Learning
How to Make and Electric Car
is not that difficult.
After converting
three regular gas engine vehicles
to electric in the past year
for ourselves and friends
we are convinced
that just about anyone
can do this.
What do you need to start?
· A vehicle to do the conversion on
· Detailed plans on how to make electric cars
· A place to work. Garage, barn, or even in your driveway
· A good reliable helper (or two)
The first thing you
will need to do
is obtain a vehicle to convert.
Nearly any small car or truck will work,
and
the plans we recommend using
give you a complete
run down
of
the best
vehicles
to
use.
We decided to use a small truck,
a Toyota Tacoma
to do our
last electric car conversion
and
it worked out really well.
It’s light and strong and has plenty of room for battery storage.
Since you're going to need room
for up to 20 batteries
the vehicle you use
is a big consideration.
One of the most difficult parts
of converting your car
or truck
to electric
is
balancing carrying capacity
with battery storage.
We recommend
about 20 batteries
to achieve
the desired 200 mile range
between charges,
but you can choose
your own range.
You can choose the range you desire for your own driving.
The plans on
how to make electric cars
even show sources
of
FREE deep cycle batteries.
This was a big help to our budget minded family.
Saving money was at the heart of
why we were doing this conversion in the first place.
Using the free sources listed in the plans
for batteries and even large DC motors-
we were able to
keep our costs down
to only
a few hundred dollars.
It only cost what a major repair would have cost to do our conversion.
I don't think there will be too many repair bills now though.
Electric cars are very reliable with very few moving parts to break or wear out.
The large electric motors and all of the controls often last for 2 vehicles.
The body of your car will rust out from underneath you before the parts will give up.
When that happens you can just transfer all the parts to another vehicle...
now there's a great long term investment!
We are very happy we learned how to make our own electric car.
The first time we drove by a gas station and saw all those people filling up with expensive gas we were grinning ear to ear.
You probably know that gas prices are expected to continue to rise.
